Jacqui Moёd - Mixed Media Artist

I was born in South Africa, and moved to the UK in the 1970’s.   I have been creating art in various forms from watercolours and graphics to jewellery and card making for many years, and for a period of time traded out of several London market’s like Camden, Swiss Cottage and Covent Garden.  Having lived in London for many years, I now work out of my studio in a village on the Essex/Suffolk border, where I live with my husband and cats!

I started a company - Jaxart, designing letterheads, company logos and personal stationery but when the personal computer market and desktop publishing took off and people were able to do this for themselves, I had to evolve and develop new ways of expressing my creativity.  And, although working full-time in the commercial world, I continued to explore different avenues of art and craft and it was about 15 years ago that, working with mixed media, my current work began take shape.

Now as a full-time artist, my artwork focuses on texture and colour and is inspired by my love of the landscape and seashore; drawing on my experience of the spectacular Southern African scenery as well as travels around Africa, Europe and the UK and from a sense of fun.  I love the challenge of using a new technique or type of substance and making it work where possible, and my conceptual art utilises a fabric base, embellished with a variety of materials and techniques from heat-forming and moulding to beadwork and painting, which I continues to develop and improve.

I began by selling mainly at Craft Fairs and Art Exhibitions and then galleries and suitable retail outlets  in East Anglia. And although I still do the occasional Craft Fair - because it's fun - I am pleased to say that I am now selling successfully in carefully chosen outlets where I have had a good response to my work, which I know is not to everyone's taste but enough people like it to buy it which makes me very happy and grateful.

On the Artwork pages is a selection of  my work.  However, they do not photograph very well as they lose the 3D effect and are far more vibrant and interesting in reality, which is why I don't sell from a website.
